Sekisui XenoTech is committed to furthering the knowledge surrounding hepatic diseases, such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (click here to view NASH donors), which affects one out of four people worldwide. Our Research Biobank provides diseased and normal liver tissue samples for scientific investigation at a reasonable cost to the end user. Our tissue is collected with the initial intent for transplant, thus making it a perfect candidate to advance hepatology research and contribute to the development of new treatments.

The care taken to preserve viability of the tissue intended for transplantation distinguishes our Research Biobank specimens from samples collected at a typical post-mortem, usually compromised by several hours of a warm ischemia. Research Biobank human tissue samples feature:

  • High quality specimens from organs intended for transplantation
  • Large quantities compared to needle biopsies
  • Collected in a timely manner to preserve tissue viability
  • Donor demographics, BMI, diabetes, alcohol use, etc.
  • Diagnosis supported by H&E slides
  • NASH, pediatric, diabetic and other specimens available

Microarrays, Tissue in Buffer, Subcellular Fractions (including a NASH Microsome Pool), Paraffin Blocks, Slides and Hepatocytes Available

Human liver tissue samples can be prepared in the buffer of your choice. Disease-defined hepatocytes have been prepared from certain donors (healthy and those with early stages of alcoholic or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or diabetes, see donor list for availability). Additionally, a pool of human liver microsomes from NASH donors has already been prepared. These test systems have the potential to be a convenient human model of the aforementioned diseases. They are offered to scientists interested in disease biomarkers, in vivo / in vitro correlation of disease biomarker expression, with the aim of advancing in vitro studies of ailments linked to obesity and alcohol consumption. Subcellular fractions, paraffin blocks or slides can be prepared upon request from many of the donors.

Check our donor characterization spreadsheet to compare available specimens. Please contact us if you do not see what you're looking for as additional donors may be available. Additional H&E and/or trichrome slide images are available upon request.
